dell up3221q – this is a dell up3221q otherwise known as ultra sharp 32 as i will probably refer to it during the video it is a 32 inch panel at 4k resolution running at 60 hertz made for content creation featuring 1000 hdr with 2 000 mini leds local dimming zones when dell emailed me and contacted me and wanted me to review this monitor. I was actually really excited and I looked at the price tag and I realized this monitor is like 5000 it’s quite expensive so I must have spent a lot of time with it I’ve been using it for the last two months and I tried it and here are my findings so let’s go ahead and talk about quality the making of this monitor because it has some pretty interesting features so number one on the front of the monitor you won’t see any brand because at the bottom there’s actually a built-in color calibrator that’s like a robot and looks really cool. I’m going to show you briefly a clip now uh pops up and pops back into the monitor [Music] ah that’s a pretty cool party trick actually really useful as well because you can use that colorometer to match whatever color profile you’re looking for so if you’re looking for adobe rgb or srgb or dci p3 which is my preferred color mode for using the monitor you can go into the display on the monitor screen set it to what color space you want it to calibrate to and then the monitor will do the rest of the work for you

I usually have a lot of lights blown out in my room at one time even when I’m editing I don’t know I just like the colors bright so get some good testing on the anti-glare coating with this monitor you’ll get a silver metal stand with pretty wide base too but not too big pretty minimalistic and looks really nice and premium um and the little dough logo in the middle goes up the back of the monitor and the stand also features a swivel height and tilt adjustment but you can’t turn or swivel this monitor on the back of the monitor it’s the same silver as the big Dell logo on top and it looks very minimal so if you were going to have this monitor in the middle of a room it would look aesthetically pleasing
the build quality of the monitor and stand is great and you would figure that out for about five grand like you’d expect this thing to feel really good and the monitor is pretty thick and you have to fit all those 2000 zone mini leds and they have to fit on the panel somewhere and it definitely adds weight to the monitor as well because it’s quite heavy and changes the port selection you have one displayport 1.4 port two hdmi 2.0s both thunderbolt 3 upstream and downstream ports and two usb 3.2 as well as on the front of the monitor on the left you have a port that was made specifically for external colorometer but it’s not a standard usb port so i wouldn’t really try plugging usb into it as it’s not built for it goes over some basic specs the monitor is 32 inches again running at 4k resolution refresh rate 60 hertz response time not very good either 6 milliseconds at the fastest response time and 8 at this normal response time ma’am right for gaming like don’t try to use this for gaming i don’t even think it has freesync and again it’s an ips display with 2000 zones mini leds and it features hdr 1000 certification in terms of color accuracy this monitor we have 99.8 percent dci p3 and 93 adobe rgb as a side note for those of us who don’t have 5000 monitors with color calibration built in the actual data colors were sent through their spider x elite color calibration on the tool I used to check color calibration again just not based off the dell website just to told you some other external reading because i wanted to critique this monitor a bit more so glad they sent this tool in to help that took me about 15-20 minutes the first time i did
but after that it’s really easy but if you only have one or two displays you don’t really have to do a lot of work you get this all done in about 15 to 20 minutes and I would say after calibrating my other two displays as well they look better the software is so easy to use basically it walks you through the whole process of calibrating your display and to be honest it does all the calibration for you like you don’t you don’t even have to actually go into the on screen display and mess with individual color settings, tools calibration basically does all of that for you after you continue the calibration process after I did. he spider x elite calibrate the dell display my findings are 98 p3 90 adobe rgb and 100 srgb maybe there is a small margin of error because obviously it’s the first time i’ve used a tool like this but again i tried it on my computer another display too and it improves the look so if i can do that and use it for the first time and find out in about 15 to 20 minutes i’m pretty sure you can do the same so if you are interested calibrate your own display. I’ll have a link for this in the description below. This is not a sponsored video. this monitor caliper so you can probably expect me to use this tool again in a future video just to check the color accuracy as well as in terms of the content creation experience it’s been absolutely fantastic because this is actually my first experience using a 32 inch 4k monitor and I prefer 1440p display at 27 inches and it’s obviously basically extended and it’s more or less like the perfect amount of screen real estate and great sharpness
also so video editing on a screen this size with this resolution is an absolute joy as far as content consumption experience dude this hdr 1000 is absolutely legit this is probably the truest hdr 1000 experience i’ve ever had not to mention it’s my first but i don’t really think it’s gonna get a lot better than this unless i look at another display that has a very similar local dimming feature um its not that many of them actually it’s the first display in the world to have these 2000 zones mini leds on a 32 inch panel and you can definitely tell what impact does the zone have in terms of making your contrast ratio absolutely insane like when you look at the brightest part of the screen and the absolute darkest part of the screen it’s the difference of night and day how much detail can you have light and dark areas of the screen and maintains very high peak-level brightness and very low-darkness levels beautiful that gives you it’s great immersion while you’re consuming the content and not to mention while you’re creating the content you also get really accurate colors it makes the whole workflow so much more enjoyable. I’m a bit annoyed that I had to send this back to dell because I want to buy it now because I feel like this is something that’s a little bit game-changing for content creators obviously if you want this to be your primary monitor and you’re a gamer this isn’t the monitor for you this made for professionals or even prosumers who have a burnt hole in their pocket and they are looking for a really good tool to help them in their workflow with highly accurate color enhancement and also just have a nice experience
because I’m pretty sure that if you’re going to spend this kind of money you want to make sure that the overall monitor experience is very pleasant to use and I’m happy to report that it was a very pleasant experience and again coming back to the monitor hdr performance this is usually what happens is if you have a monitor that doesn’t have backlight control levels when you start to see the brighter areas of the screen usually the whole part of the screen just kind of explodes and you can’t see much detail at all whereas with this monitor the brighter parts of the screen the the darker all the detail that would normally be in that region that would be blown out or made too dark to see the detail you can now see so it’s like a much different viewing experience and I would say that it’s more like a really luxury tv maybe something on the s level like almost oled quality or even something like the new samsung like q-leg quality they have all the different little local dimming zones that give you a huge degree of control of the lighter and darker parts of the screen so you can retain detail but it’s definitely shrunken being a 32 inch form factor and built for professional workflow and you know definitely not you know 65 inches big now the thing is you know for the price of this miner you could probably buy close to two of that TV but the problem is that TV is built for content consumption and it hasn’t certainly for content creation so they don’t really display the most accurate colors even though the colors may be very pleasing to the eye to look at. they’re not necessarily going to be the most accurate because that’s not the display they’re meant to be whereas these are made to be prosumer and professional workhorses monitors that feature everything you need whether it’s photo editing, video editing, all kinds of color sensitive work design work
i was also guessing and pretty much anything you can use the monitor for a really nice experience not too much of a learning curve to get the colors to be the way you want once you can use the calibration tool its not that hard to figure out now the thing is you know for four to five grand you could probably afford a 65 inch TV or two that lets you know all the local dimming zones and looks really good but the problem is made for content consumption and not content creation so obviously no similar technology shrinks. getting down to this 32 inch form factor and it has much better color accuracy than just you know good color which is great for live viewing experiences now than just being able to watch and consume that content you can render that content very accurately at this point for flow my work this monitor is a bit overkill and i don’t think i need it but it would be nice to have one so maybe in the future i might consider getting something in this caliber but to be honest i feel like i would rather buy this monitor than uh asus pro art i believe it’s about three or four thousand dollars and it’s 27 inches because I feel like having 4k at 32 inches feels like a much better use of screen real estate going forward.
I might pick up something like this now not necessarily for me but if you’re a pro looking for a pro grade monitor this should be a very heavy contender on your list I can’t really draw many comparisons to the apple pro uh what is the display pro xdr because I haven’t used it uh maybe in the future I might look into it but um it’s so expensive so if apple wants to send it to me for review I mean maybe but I doubt it but anyways it’s for this video if you guys enjoyed feel free to give like and subscribe you are also new to this channel thanks again for watching and see you in next video
